NEW DELHI: In a new twist to the controversy over the endorsement of BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi as “incorruptible”, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange denied on Monday any such endorsement.

WikiLeaks came up with a series of tweets on Monday, denying the endorsement and accused a BJP sympathiser Priti Singh as the source of the misinformation.

Modi has never been endorsed by Wikileaks as ‘incorruptible’, rather “… he was viewed as ‘incorruptible’, Wikileaks tweeted Monday.

The denial came after a number of Modi supporters claimed in posters that “America is scared of Modi because he is incorruptible.”

Wikileaks referred to a piece of information, originally classified as confidential and published on November 27, 2006, that says: ” …Rajkot Congress party leader Manoharsinh Jadeja said “Modi’s accomplishments are undeniable,” and admitted that the Congress would make little headway against the BJP in Gujarat anytime soon. Modi is extremely popular, Jadeja said, and even Muslims are now supporting him to some extent because he is viewed as someone who is completely incorruptible and can deliver the goods. Consul General asked if Modi could become a national BJP leader, and Jadeja said he hoped so because as long as he was the CM in Gujarat, Congress would face a tough challenge.”

However, the BJP downplayed the tweets, saying they don’t need a certificate from Assange on Modi.

“We don’t need a certificate from Wikileaks or Assange on Modiji,” said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
