GWALIOR: Even as the Lok Sabha election is closing in, a rape complaint has been filed against the AAP candidate here and his three colleagues on Thursday.

A 30-year-old woman, also a former colleague of the party candidate Shailendra Singh Kushwaha in Guna-Shivpuri, has filed a complaint with Gwalior police accusing Kushwaha and his three friends thrice over a year ago. She had participated in the Anna Hazare movement and joined AAP later.

Kushwaha dismissed the allegations as baseless and says they are politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing his image on eve of the elections.

He says he has come to know that the complaint has been filed at the behest of two party workers who want to settle their personal score.

The woman said she went to Raipur after the rape incidents and suffered for more than a year. She even approached the senior party leaders in Delhi but nobody came to her rescue. After being disappointed from all quarters, she came back to Gwalior and decided to file the complaint.

The AAP secretary of Madhya Pradesh Akshay Hunka who reached Gwalior on Thursday to look into the matter, said the allegations are baseless, motivated and made to settle personal score, besides an attempt to tarnish the image of the party.

Meanwhile, Gwalior Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Virendra Jain has said that they are following guidelines of the Supreme Court which says an investigation needs to be conducted before filing an FIR in a rape case if it is reported three months later. An investigation has been initiated and appropriate action will be taken soon.
