A day after criticising Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, AAP leader Kumar Viswas visited the village of the dalit household where the Congress MP had spent a night in 2008.

Despite Rahul’s promise to help and media publicity after his visit, the family is still living in a hut with no roof. Vishwas asked his party’s volunteers to arange for asbestos sheets so that the family with four children can protect themselves from the bitter cold.

Sunita Kori, the dalit woman from Poorey Jawaharpur, said Rahul visited her house on January 26, 2008, had dinner, spent a night and assured to redress her problems but her family has no permanent home till date.

The roof of the two room kuchcha house caved in March 2012 after being set afire by some miscreants allegedly owing allegiance to Samajwadi Party during celebrations following party’s victory in assembly elections. Then, senior SP leaders had promised help but nothing concrete happened.

Now, she along with her four children and husband lives in one room covered with tarpaulin sheet.

Later, Sunita told reporters that Rahul had promised to help her in 2008. Her husband got a temporary job but was later removed. She said after her house was burnt, she had sought help from Rahul but to no avail.

She said she met Rahul once but he could not recognize her. When she told him that she was the same person in whose house he had stayed in 2008, he directed someone to help her but nothing was done.
