NEW DELHI: A day after the face-offs between AAP ministers and Delhi Police officials, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal met Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, and demanded their immediate suspension.

The ruling AAP has warned that they would hold protests outside Sinde’s office if their demands are not met.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal and three of his ministers met LG Najeeb Jung and complained against police inaction and high-handedness following which Jung ordered a probe by a retired judge into the incidents.

However, Delhi Police Commissioner who was also present in Jang’s office along with his officers, refused to suspend the officials.

Meanwhile, BJP has come to the rescue of the cops, praising the Delhi Police ACP for doing his duty and not surrendering to the AAP minister’s diktat.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley posted on Twitter: “The action by AAP cadres to carry out medical tests which included cavity search on some women foreign nationals is contrary to law.”

“The Supreme Court has affirmed this principle of Lord Denning in the Vineet Narain case. ACP Shri B.S. Jakhar, who defied the minister but stood by the law has earned our respects. We must all salute ACP Jakhar.”

“A police officer performs functions under law. While exercising his lawful powers, he is certainly not subject to any Ministerial direction,” Jitley further tweeted.

Congress leader Manish Tewari also took a swipe at Kejriwal over the incident.

“African Relationship rooted in struggle against colonialism & racism Treatment meted out to African ladies by AAP reprehensible and obtuse,” tweeted Manish Tewari.
