New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected a plea seeking probe into the role of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the multi-crore coal scam case.

The CBI had lodged an FIR in the case following directions from the apex court recently.

The FIR had named former Coal secretary PC Parekh and industrialist K M Birla in a conspiracy on allocation of a coal block to Hindalco in 2005.

The apex court observed that “the probe was still going on and it is for the CBI to look into it”.

However, the SC accepted CBI’s plea and allowed it to add one more officer in the team which is conducting the probe into allocation of coal blocks.

The CBI had moved the Supreme Court on Monday seeking permission to include one more officer in the team of 39 officials conducting the probe.

The agency filed the application as the apex court had directed it not to make changes in the team of officers probing the multi-crore scam.
