NEW DELHI: Social activist Mallika Sarabhai joined the Aam Aadmi Party Wednesday as party chief Arvind Kejriwal, the youngest chief minister of Delhi, called upon people to stop violence and restore peace.
The CM condemned the attack on his party office in Ghaziabad, saying if killing him or Prashant Bhusan could solve the Kashmir problem, he is ready to sacrifice his life.
A group of youth, who claimed to be members of the Hindu Rakshak Dal, ransacked the AAP office in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad on Wednesday morning.
Kejriwal said, “if they think by killing me or Prashant Bhushan, the Kashmir issue will get resolved, then they should tell me the place and date when they want to kill me and I’ll go.”
“Do the attackers want to kill Prashant Bhushan? I have made our party’s stand on referendum clear. Even Bhushan said that his comments have been misinterpreted,” he added.
Bhushan also blamed BJP for the attack, saying they were the same people who had attacked him two years ago after he made a statement asking the government to withdraw Army from Kashmir.
“These are the same people who attacked me previously too. Vishnu Gupta is one of them while Tejinder Singh Bagga works for the BJP.”
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed following which police have detailed the Hindu Rakshak Dal leader Pinky Choudhary. At least 30 to 40 people were involved in the attack but no one was injured.
The Hindu outfit says the attack was prompted by Bhushan’s controversial call to hold a referendum in Kashmir. To this Vishnu Gupta, a member of the Hindu outfit, called Bhushan a “traitor” and said Kashmir is an integral part of India, and there can be no compromise on that issue.
“If such people are allowed to go scot-free for making such anti-national comments then our country will disintegrate. Withdrawing Army from Kashmir means giving it away to Pakistan,” he said.
Bhushan was beaten by three people in the Supreme Court in October 2011 for asking the government to repeal the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Kashmir and withdraw Indian Army who are there to maintain law and order following internal security threat.
