KHARSIA: The gloves came off in the battle for Chhattisgarh as AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi adopted an aggressive posture on Saturday, dubbing BJP as a party of “chor” and “lootere” (thieves).

Although most part of his speech focused on paying tributes to the slain leaders of his party including PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel in an ambush by Maoists, he called upon the people to get rid of the “chor” and “looteras” of BJP.

“I want not one but 500 Nandu Patels in Chhattisgarh who will get the state rid of these thieves,” he said amid thunderous applause. Rahul was canvassing for late Patel’s younger son Umesh.

“I had instantly recognised leadership qualities of Patel for his simplicity and love for people. Nandu Bhaiya rose from grassroots level but never forgot his roots. He never wanted any position in the party or the government,” Rahul said, adding Patel had undertaken the fateful yatra to make people aware of the loot by the BJP government in the state.

Rahul blamed BJP for poor law and order in the sate.

“For thousands of tribals, backward classes, women and poor, the entire state is like Jhiram Ghati and everyday is May 25. People are getting exploited and killed like the Congress men were massacred.”

Rahul said if “Nandu” were alive, he would have become the chief minister and would have ruled the state for nothing less than 15 years.
