Never called people attending Modi’s rally bastards, says Omar

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah alleged a Mumbai-based newspaper has distorted his remarks, and said people can check the entire unedited video clip lying with a news agency on Friday.

A newspaper Mumbai Mirror has published a report which claims Omar Abdullah had called the people attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally ‘bastards’.

Taking strong exceptions to the report, Abdullah tweeted on Friday that his remarks were distorted by the newspaper and added that people can check the entire unedited video clip lying with the news agency ANI before drawing any conclusion.

“Thanks “@smitaprakash: @abdullah_omar ANI tweeted exact words yesterday, they could check that. Let me state UNEQUIVOCALLY that I never said or even implied that those who attend Modi rallies are bastards. The Mumbai Mirror is wrong,” Omar said in a tweet.

“I’ve never minced my words. I’ve never shied away from admitting a mistake/apologising either but I refuse to be judged by a misquote.”

“The entire clip of what I said is with @ANI_news as it was to their camera man. Please see unedited version before drawing conclusions,” he (@abdullah_omar) said.

Condemning Mumbai Mirror for the distorted report, he said, “seems a publication called Mumbai Mirror has misunderstood/distorted something I said about people attending PM’s meeting in Srinagar.”

The state has witnessed an unprecedented 70 per cent plus voting in the first two rounds of polling in 33 Assembly segments so far. The third round will take place in Uri, Rafiabad, Sopore, Sangrama, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Pattan, Chadoora, Badgam, Beerwah, Khansahib, Chrar-i-Sharief, Tral, Pampore, Pulwama and Rajpora on December 09.
