NEW DELHI: The two main national parties Congress and BJP held separate national conventions to discuss strategies for the upcoming general elections.

Both know well this time their biggest challenge will come from the newly-formed Aam Aadmi Party even as they call it the ‘B’ team of the other.

With 2014 elections only months away, almost all political parties are ready for the battle which is likely to witness a triangular contest this time.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s refused to announce Rahul as their PM-pick despite a strong demand by the party rank and file to do so. However, the senior leaders did not leave any doubt that if they are voted to power, Rahul will be the PM.

However, Mani Shankar Aiyar’s jibe against Modi once again showed arrogance of the party leaders despite the recent drubbing in the assembly elections. Will they ever learn from their mistakes?

As expected, BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi did not let go the opportuity. Modi rubbished Congress claims on not announcing Rahul as PM candidate, asking if Rajiv Gandhi was chosen by the Congress Parliamentary Party?

“No mother in the world will sacrifice her son when she know that the defeat is imminent,” said Modi. “The Congress dynasty is shying away from competing with a tea vendor. They think how can they fight against someone who belongs to a backward class, someone who used to sell tea on trains?”

Modi alleged the country had never experienced such a situation where it is without any leadership and constructive policies.
