NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party membership drive ‘Mei Bhi Aam Aadmi’ has registered 50 lakh members so far. The drive, launched on January 10, will continue till January 26.

However, a News website claims people registered themselves as members with names such as Barack Obama, Rahul Gandhi, Narendra Modi and so on.

Surprisingly, all of them have been allotted membership registration numbers with fictitious details including mobile numbers which do not exist.

AAP in-charge of the membership drive Gopal Rai says: “Membership is open to all. Since the aim was to reach maximum number of people, it was not possible to check all individual details. However, exceptions are everywhere, and we will rectify the errors.”

The drive was launched after people from all walks of life showed interest to join the party following its spectacular debut in the Delhi assembly elections.

Anyone can become a member of the party by making a call, sending a SMS or register online without fees under the drive. So it can not be ruled out if people from rival parties played mischief.
