Can a coalition government provide political stability?

0

Surveys conducted by various agencies recently suggest no coalition will be able to clinch majority in the upcoming general elections. While Congress-led UPA falls way short of the halfway-mark, BJP and allies may also need support from some other parties to form a government.

Despite the claims of all parties that only they can provide a stable government, do you believe any regional party will agree to offer support to a NDA government with Narendra Modi at the helm? If not, a replacement bid by some other senior leader may not be acceptable to all in the BJP. Such attempts will face resistance from within the saffron party certainly.

On the other hand, if Congress fares miserably as suggested by the surveys, can the regional parties unite under one leader with outside support from Congress to form the government? Will it last long? Almost all the regional leaders are known for their ambition to be the prime minister. None of them is believed to be willing to work under anybody else. In such a case, can a coalition government be able to deliver a stable government at the Centre? Share your opinion.
