NEW DELHI: Former Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal reiterated his call to accept money from BJP and Congress but voter for his party in the run-up to Assembly elections on Sunday.

This came only two days after a warning by the Election Commission which asked him to refrain from such remarks in electioneering. Kejriwal had stated in his reply to the Commission that he never encouraged bribes and had offered to personally explain his point if the Commission is not satisfied with his reply.

The Election Commission had stated that such remarks amount to “abetting and promoting electoral offence of bribery” under relevant sections of the Representation of People Act read with provisions of the IPC.

Kejriwal was speaking at election rallies in Jangpura and Kasturba Nagar constituencies where he made a host of promises including free wi-fi services and water connection to each household, if voted to power.

“Do the BJP and Congress come to you with money? If they do, don’t say no to them. Take the money. I know they are distributing blankets and sacks of rice as well. Take all of that, but reject liquor as it destroys families,” Kejriwal said in response to cheers from crowd.

“Each household of Delhi will be connected with a water pipeline and free wi-fi facility will be provided in the entire national capital,” he said.

The AAP leader also promised that if his party comes to power, his government will make arrangement to provide a “security button” on mobile phones. Women can thus inform the police and get help within minutes during an emergency.

Kejriwal said the Narendra Modi government is only making U-turns on important issues and accused both BJP and Congress of favouring power companies with increased electricity tariff.
