NEW DELHI: In an attempt to silent BJP and a hostile public opinion, the AAP government has made a request to President Pranab Mukherjee to act against former CM Sheila Dikshit and her colleagues for granting fake certificates to illegal colonies to get votes.

Senior AAP leader and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said Monday that his government has written a letter to the President with a request to act against the former CM and her colleagues for providing fake provisional registration certificates to unauthorized colonies.

The city government had issued PRCs to 1218 unauthorized colonies with around 40 lakh voters despite knowing that there were no basic amenities available then.

“The previous government did fake work over the colonies. They provided fake provisional certificates for unauthorized colonies in Delhi and the Lokayukta has decided to put a stop on such actions,” said Sisodia.

“Things like these should not be done for political mileage before elections. We have asked the President to take action against such people. It depends on him now,” he said.

BJP leader Harsh Vardhan had filed a complaint to the Delhi Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin with allegations that the former CM had granted PRCs in absence of basic amenities with a clear motive to only get votes.

Justice Sarin had issued an order in November last year recommending to the President to issue an advisory. The President’s office had sought comments from the Delhi government on the matter.

In 2012, a committee, headed by divisional commissioner Vijay Dev, had found serious wrongdoing in the process of granting PRCs and recommended criminal proceedings against those responsible.
