Media reports large number of fake voters in Delhi

NEW DELHI: In what could be the biggest setback to electoral politics in India, a TV News channel reports that nearly 1.25 lakh of the 1.3 million voters in Delhi are fake.

A report on an English news portal of the group that owns IBN-7 TV channel says a recent survey has found an alarming percentage of voters to be bogus. For instance, the voter list has one Ram Avtar in Kanjhawala area of Mundka Assembly constituency which was found to be fake.

In another instance, one Rakesh has been issued two voter identity cards with same house in Kanjhawala. Situation is no different in other areas like Tirthankar Nagar in Karala. Voters lists are full of errors in terms of wrong names, misplaced addresses or voters who have moved from one area to another place but have managed to get voter I-cards.

With elections only a week away, manipulation of EVMs and large number of fake voters remain a big concern for Election Commission to conduct free and fair polls.
