Deadlock in Rajya Sabha: Who is to blame?

0

NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha failed to conduct any business for last three days. Bolstered by a new found camaraderie on floor coordination, the opposition parties demand a statement by the PM on religious conversion even as the government says it is ready for discussion. But the Opposition can not dictate who will represent the government in the House.

The upper House has witnessed frequent disruptions, heated exchange of words between the two sides threatening to turn into verbal duels. A privilege motion notice has been served against Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Rival parties have threatened they could bring more such motion against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

Such incidents led to ‘policy paralysis’ towards the end of UPA-II. BJP leaders, then in Opposition, used to blame the government for the stalemate, saying it was the responsibility of the government to run the House.

The initial euphoria in India Incorporation after Modi became the PM is declining. Such stalemate may further erode the sentiment though it is too early to predict anything. However, time has come both sides must sit together and find out a solution amicably in stead of accusing the Opposition to enter into a competition on disruptive politics.

After all the government is responsible to run the House. Join the debate on who is to blame for the stalemate in Rajya Sabha, Congress or BJP?
